Student Internships

Internships and practicums provide students with an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, to build a network of professional contacts, and to begin the transition from student to professional.

School of Journalism and Electronic Media

WUTK– On air since 1982, WUTK is a non-profit radio station operating out of the Communications Building. Locally, it airs on 90.3 FM.

Tennessee Journalist – Since 2006, TNJN has been the news website of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media. The site is a part of the cirriculum of the school, but day-to-day content and operation decisions are made by a student staff appointed by the faculty.

Scoop – The print magazine of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media is published at the end of the fall and spring semesters.

Land Grant Films – Founded by Associate Professor Nick Geidner, Land Grant Films gives students real-world experience in documentary storytelling while providing local non-profit organizations with videos assets that can be used to raise awareness and funds.


University Student Media

The Daily Beacon – The independent campus newspaper has been published since 1906.

Phoenix – Since 1959, the Phoenix has served as the literary arts magazine of campus, publishing an issue during the fall and spring semesters.

The Volunteer Channel – The Volunteer Channel is the university’s student-run television station, reaching 7,000 UT students in residence halls and 100,000 residents in the Knoxville area via Xfinity.

Lumos Production Services – Through the Office of Student Media, this team of students produces video content for advertising partners, campus partners, and new clients.
